According to Dan Tri citing Sohu, legal experts said that Wang, 44, as their biological father, has legal guardianship following Hsu’s death in Japan on Feb. 2.
Despite efforts from Hsu’s family and her husband, South Korean musician DJ Koo, 56, to keep the children in Taiwan, custody was not legally feasible due to Koo’s lack of blood relation.
As a result, the family accepted Wang’s request for the children to relocate to Beijing, where they will live with him and his new wife, Mandy.
A source close to Hsu’s mother and sister, Dee Hsu, said the family hopes Wang will provide the children with care and help them adjust to their new environment.
The decision to grant Wang custody has sparked widespread debate on Chinese social media.
Many netizens affirm his legal right but urge him to handle the transition with sensitivity. Some also call on him to maintain emotional stability and be mindful of his public statements in the coming period.
Hsu rose to fame in TV series such as “Meteor Garden,””Mars,” and “Summer’s Desire.” Her personal life, especially her marriages, had long drawn media attention.
She and Wang became engaged in 2010, just 49 days after meeting, and married the following year in Sanya, China. The couple had two children but divorced in November 2021. Hsu was granted custody, and the children primarily lived with her and her maternal family in Taiwan.
After the divorce, Hsu rekindled her romance with DJ Koo, marrying him in February 2022. They remained together until her passing.
Wang later married Mandy in May 2024.
